Valentine’s Day is such a sweet holiday. Get together with a friend to make cookies and it becomes even sweeter. That’s exactly what I did. Having limited artistic ability, I partnered with my friend Jennifer, a skilled baker, and followed her lead to create gorgeous homemade cookies for my friends and family.
Since decorating isn’t really my thing, I felt a bit intimidated going into our baking date. My non surgical hand shook a bit as I outlined the cookies with icing. Jennifer eased my nerves, pointing out that my handiwork didn’t have to be perfect. (Phew!) Although she decorated two cookies for each one of mine and hers were noticeably better, I felt such a sense of accomplishment looking at our finished product.
Challenging our cooking selves becomes a lot easier when we turn to our friends for inspiration and leadership. Baking or cooking with a friend more skilled than yourself, is like getting a free lesson. To me, there’s no end to what friends can accomplish together in the kitchen.
