With kids so much a part of my life now, it’s inevitable that they will learn how and why to cook with their friends. After school on Monday, sixteen 7-year old Brownie girls gathered at my brave friend Emily’s house. Yes, there was mayhem that to some would have seemed like madness. To me, it was marvelous. The girls broke into three groups, each with a large bowl and several wooden spoons. They cracked eggs, whisked, measured and stirred — at times with every spoon in the bowl — creating the dough to make 25 mini loaves of banana bread. They will be donating the breads as part of the second annual Easter Basket for the local Human Needs Food Pantry. From all the giggles and chatter, I’m pretty sure they had fun while learning the important lesson of giving.
