Our Denver group of cooking friends is gearing up for a festival of swaps over the next few months. This month we’ll do a Breakfast Foods Swap. My partner and I will whip up a huge batch of homemade granola and tie it in pretty bags to hand out. Others in the group are talking about apple cake, scones with handpicked raspberries, breakfast burritos, pancakes and mini-quiches. Mornings are starting to look even better around here.
In the coming months we’ll move on to a Staples Swap, sharing pantry staples like stocks and sauces. An Appetizer Swap, a homemade Bread Swap, our good old Soup and Chili Swap and of course a Holiday Cookie Swap are to come. In New Jersey, Alison’s latest gathering of this kind is a Kids’ Food Swap, which sounds yummy…and useful.
Here’s how it works: We gather in groups of 2 or 3 to cook, and then get together at a host’s house to swap the goodies. Our kids usually come to our cooking dates and our swap parties, making a fun time for all. If you’d like to host one, we’d love to help, or if you have ideas about swaps, let us know.
