Making breakfast, lunch and dinner for your family day after day can get a bit monotonous and challenging, especially when shuttling the kids to and from their multitude of activities. Trying to maintain and establish friendships on top of that can at times seem next to impossible.
Montclair mom Alison Bermack was thrilled when she first discovered that you could combine the two. Why not cook together while hanging out with friends? She inspired Suzy and a friend to give it a whirl. We came up with about four or five meals, got together on a Sunday and cooked and visited for about three hours. It was fun, we saved money since we shared groceries, and in 3 hours had meals for the week.
Together, Alison and childhood friend Shannon Henry began spreading the word and now Cooking With Friends has a national presence. They run a website, free e-newsletter and Yahoo community together. You can use the site to share recipes, trade ideas, and schedule cooking dates and swaps. The site is full of advice, inspiration, ideas and big batch recipes that will help you cook with your friends.
Check out the site and start cooking with a friend today. Try their homemade pesto sauce. The recipe can be found under Suzy’s Recipe of the Week.
