One of our friends decided that this week, she and her family (2 adults, 2 kids) would try an experiment–they would not spend any money. The goal, of course, in this time of fast-moving lives and difficult economy, is to slow down, rediscover what’s important, and even save some money.
Instead of going out to lunch, they packed a picnic and headed to the playground. Cars have been parked for the week and legs and bikes used instead.
While this day-to-day life is not exactly sustainable (the milk is running out, the bills need to be paid), the underlying philosophy is evergreen. It’s similar to the concept of cooking together, where the idea is to live more simply by sharing food resources and enjoying each others’ company.

It seems a great idea! It’s save time and gas as well. I might try this with my friends and family.
