Hey there granola lovers! I was recently introduced to a great new granola concept — www.mixmygranola.com. You all know that I am a big fan of making your own granola at home with friends, but I decided to take a look at this innovative new concept and thought it could make a unique gift.
Basically, you can design your own granola on-line in minutes with a few simple clicks. You start by selecting a basic type of granola (organic granola, French vanilla granola, organic muesli, or low-fat), click on “Add ingredients” to select your add-ins (dried fruit, nuts and berries) and then you get to name your granola anything you want. The site has a clever nutritional information pop up so you can keep a close watch on the calories and fat.
I checked the price to see how it stacks up against other reputable online granola companies and it is quite comparable. For instance, the Bare Naked brand costs $4.84 for 12oz. With one add-in, Mix My Granola costs $6.28 for 18 oz. You’ll need to keep a close eye on what you throw into your granola since the cost goes up the more you add.
How did it taste? I liked them both — not quite as crunchy as some granolas, but very flavorful. The low fat Cherry Almond is delicious to snack on right out of the tube. I decided to share some granola with family and friends to see what they thought. Here’s their opinion: My husband liked both the Vanilla Strawberry and the Low Fat Cherry Almond but prefers the lower fat; my neighbor Jenn thought the low fat version would be good in yogurt with some fruit and the higher fat Vanilla Strawberry would be best in milk. Suzy, who has been making her own granola for years now, favored the higher fat batch of Vanilla Strawberry.
Two thumbs up from all on the concept.
I like Mix My Granola. It’s an original gift idea and if you know the recipient’s favorite add-ins, it’s personal too. The granola comes well packaged in a sturdy tube with a personalized label and hand written signature from the owner. All in all, I think it is a clever concept, good product and great gift idea — maybe even for Father’s Day.
