A few days ago, a bunch of guys who work together in our city gathered to do a cook-off. It was a Madison version of Iron Chef, where each person competed to cook the most incredible food. It reminded me that although we talk a lot about the women who cook with friends, we also have readers who are men, who like to cook with their wives, partners, children, and their pals.
I thought about my dad, who recently showed me how he’s doing omelets these days, my father in law who brought home spices from Turkey to cook with his friends, and my husband, who is thrilled to have a mini-jalepeno plant in our kitchen window that helps us make kids’ and grownup versions of many dishes.
Real men cook, and they even cook together.

I met my husband 30 years ago when I was 17 and had no more cooking experience than 7th grade home ec. He taught me everything I know about cooking- specifically Mexican food. His mom was 1/2 Mexican and he grew up in So-Cal. We still cook together, and he still cooks for me. In fact, this morning he made us Huevos Rancheros Lite! His big secret ingredient/condiment is Pico Pica sauce. Good on (almost) everything.
I love your blog and site and will sign up for your newsletter.
