My friend Kris and I often talk about food, whether it’s the CSA share I pick up at her house or something one of us has made. So when she said she was doing some big-batch cooking with friends, I thought that was great but not surprising. Then she told me about her challenge: Dinner for one week for 60 high school teenagers while they attended a regional rowing competition. She was feeding the crew, and the crew were mostly very, very hungry boys.
On Kris’s team were seven parents, who banded together to support their kids with food and encouragement for the week. Feeding the team amounted to a complicated process, including the advance work of creating recipes for 67, keeping in mind the extreme activity the rowers would do every day. It meant taking into account food allergies and aversions, calling ahead to order food from a local grocery store, and making sure the kitchen they had was usable. In the end, Kris said it was wonderful. The kids ate, and ate, and ate, and rowed, and rowed and rowed. There is nothing like a parent’s support and love.

How true! The 10 adults (parents and coaches) ate their fare share, too. We cooked all day, every day and had a ball.

So what is the delicious looking dish in the blog photo?

I think Shannon kindly provided the photo. But, if you cook for crowds and would like any of our recipes, just send me an email and I’ll get them to you.
