Is there anything better than the first tomato from your backyard garden? Sprinkled with a bit of salt and pepper, it’s one of my favorite foods. When you take the first bite and the flavor explodes in your mouth, you remember why the winter tomatoes just never could stand up to these beauties.
A few days ago we were lucky to bring the first tomatoes for breakfast with our friends. We had bagels, cream cheese, lox, cucumbers and tomatoes. It was too hot to want to cook but the assembling of bagels and toppings were a perfect activity for the kids and grownups. It’s this time of year that we love sharing fresh veggies with friends–someone gets too many potatoes in their CSA or we’re looking for some extra Napa cabbage for a big batch of Asian Coleslaw.
What’s growing in your garden right now?

Looks great! I have a friend who eats tomatoes straight – no salt or pepper – just like an apple.

In 8 of the last 12 days I have had a tomatoe sandwich for lunch! Delicious. Just a little salt and mayo on some yummy oatnut bread and I am good to go 😉 Need more tomatoes!
