“The object is to set out the plants so that their outer leaves just touch one another when the plants are about three quarters mature and so the leaves basically carpet the bed when they are fully mature.”– Duane Newcombe
I was away for just three days and it’s amazing what has grown in that short amount of time! I have kale and two kinds of peas sprouting, in addition to the lettuce that budded last week. I guess when I plunk myself down and just stare at it (yes I did that!) not much seems to happen. It’s like watching a pot of water come to a boil. But so much has grown in the past few days that I think it may be a bit too crowded in some places. Then again, since the Postage Stamp Garden approach requires planting the seeds a little closer than in traditional gardens, I’ll worry about my spacing later and thin my plants out.
I guess I should mention a potential gardening glitch. There’s one small quadrant of my garden that seems to be growing at a much slower pace. In fact, I don’t see any signs of life just yet. I’m beginning to worry that maybe I forgot to plant anything in that area. I’ll give it a few more days and if nothing comes up, I’ll just plant something else there.
Stay tuned, IPS gardening friends.

We’re getting a bad break this spring with all of this cold and too wet weather, things seem better for next week with warmer and sunnier predictions.
BTW radish goes nice in a salad.

Remind me to email you some pics of our garden. But I’m worried – we’re about to get our yard done, and I’m afraid it’ll mess with our “harvest.” But still…it looks SO pretty right now!

And radishes are really delicious when they are sauteed instead of eaten raw. They become a completely new vegetable. Lou, you must try them this way! Yes, I am waiting for the sun as well.

Leah — what are you growing? Describe your garden for me! I am sure down south you are way ahead. I would love to see photos!

I love this gardening blog, Alison. We might just start a postage stamp garden sometime! Thanks!
