When friends e-mail, call or text me with messages and pleas to cook together, it always makes me smile. It’s been a tough week in the cooking with friends department, with graduations, parties and year-end school events occupying every free moment. Sadly, I didn’t have a single cooking date this week, which is unusual to say the least.
I’ve been in high gear, pre-vacation mode, using up the foods that are stored in my freezer. Banana bread, quiche and cinnamon rolls — each one conjuring up memories of a nice time cooking with friends — came in handy to serve the mom’s at my son’s 6th birthday party and empanadas, spring rolls and mini caramelized onion and blue cheese tarts — more good memories — fantastic appetizers for a friend’s 40th birthday bash.
An empty freezer will soon cry “cook for me” and prompt numerous plans. But even with all the busyness, there are lots of cooking plans being made: summertime sauce-making dates, plans to stock a friend’s freezer with healthy dinners, and weekly CSA cooking dates. It’s these plans, and promises of times to soon come that make up for this week’s drought.

We’re going to miss you, leave a key for your house so that Christina and I can clean out the rest of your freezer.
Have a good one.
Love, Lou

I will miss you too! But I will think of you both often as I cook with my family and remembering all the fun I have cooking and enjoying many meals with you.
