Last week I had the pleasure of talking with Food Network star Ellie Krieger, a down-to-earth woman and mom concerned about healthy eating — just like you and I. Like many of us, she believes in building healthy snacking around fresh produce. Shopping weekly at farmers’ markets, farm stands and part of a CSA (consumer supported agriculture), I couldn’t agree more. The fresher the food, the better for you and tastier. She also talks about the importance of planning ahead, which as you know is a big part of Cooking With Friends.
Our video interview was taped and I’ve included it for you to watch. Since it was a call in interview, it’s her face with both our voices. She offers viewers a few healthy recipes which incorporate California grapes, in season now. My favorite of her recipes is a simple fruit kebob drizzled with dark chocolate which Ellie says keeps perfectly in the freezer for a low-fat refreshing treat.
I’ve also received a copy of Ellie’s new book: Comfort Food Fix, which includes her “feel good favorites made healthy.” For those of you looking for some healthy back to school family friendly meals, this book looks great.
Enjoy the video!

Great reminder that we should have healthy snacking options on the table when the kids walk in hungry!
