Disclosure: I was given a complimentary Wüsthof NEW CLASSIC 7-INCH CHAI DAO KNIFE to test and review. As always, I agreed to write about this product only if I like it.
I’m a big believer in investing in a good knife. It makes prepping food so much more enjoyable and efficient! There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to use a dull old knife to cut, slice or dice something. It makes cooking plain old frustrating to be stuck with a useless knife. Before testing the new Wüsthof 7-inch Chai Dao knife, my favorite two knives were my chef’s knife by Global (which I still love) and my panini knife by Wüsthof. Well, I now have a third knife to add to my list of favorites. I first tested the knife on an heirloom tomato and was amazed at the ease with which this knife created perfect slices. Next I tested it on some dicing and found it to be efficient and easy to use. Unlike some longer knives, the 7 inch length enabled me to use some quick wrist action to chop various vegetables. Now instead of grabbing my chef’s knife to dice, I am reaching for my new Wüsthof knife.
And you can too if you leave a comment below by next Friday September 8th with how you would use this awesome new knife. Value at $99.95, it’s a special giveaway to one of my lucky readers. I will be drawing a winner at random so good luck! Don’t forget to check Wüsthof out on Facebook and Twitter: www.facebook.com/wusthof1814 and www.twitter.com/wusthof
Here’s a bit of information from Wüsthof about the knife:
Inspired by the traditional design of a Chinese Cleaver,
which is called a Cai Dao, Wüsthof’s distinctively shaped
Classic 7-inch Chai Dao features a wide blade with a razorsharp
fine edge that curves dramatically upwards as it nears
the knife’s squared-off tip. The blade’s curvy profile — which
is in sharp contrast to the perfectly straight blade style of the
popular, Asian-style Nakiri knife — allows chefs and home
cooks to quickly mince, chop, dice, and slice a myriad of
ingredients by employing an effortless “rocking” motion on
cutting boards.
The Classic 7-inch Chai Dao’s wide blade surface also
makes it easier to scrape and carry prepped ingredients from
the chopping block to pans, bowls and other vessels. The
wider blade also makes the knife an ideal tool for smashing
and crushing aromatics, such as garlic, ginger, and
lemongrass.
While primarily designed for prepping vegetables and fruits,
the agile and versatile Classic 7-inch Chai Dao has the
power and heft to be able to easily transition from slicing
paper-think shallots to cubing tough cuts of beef.

I would soooo enjoy having this new knife. My knife is old (from 1979) and I keep it sharpened but the rivots that hold the wooden handle on are loosening. Ive looked at and purchased other knives but nothing feels as comfortable in my hand. This knife however has the distinct shape and looks like it would be a great fit to my hand and it looks balanced very well and who couldnt like a blade that is razor sharp. I LOVE cutting, chopping, julienning, dicing well you get the idea..I do all my tasty morsels by hand not with a processor and having this knife would make my life simpler and definately more enjoyable! Thanks for the opportunity!!

I see using this knife to chop up veggies from my garden.

This knife looks like it would be perfect for breaking down whole chickens, as well as for dicing heavier root vegetables for stews,It would have the sturdiness of a cleaver without the weight and bulk.
What a great concept.

I don’t have that knife but I see it used often in cooking shows. I’d love to try it instead of my regular butchers knife, for my slicing needs.

Having a great knife to chop with makes cooking so much more enjoyable. I love doing prep work but only if I love my equipment. I love the slight curve on the blade of this knife. I think it will help tremendously with the speed of chopping. Who ever receives this knife will be very happy I’m sure. Hope it’s me!! Thank you for this opportunity.

There’s just something about chopping with the RIGHT knife that makes a food procssor unnecessary. This looks like that kind of knife!

I am chopping, dicing, etc. all the time. No matter what the ethnicity of the dish is starts out with chopping! We joined a CSA this year so we have lots of veggies. My cooking buddy who comes over to make stir fries would love to have a sharp knife in my kitchen!

This looks like a great knife, with opportunities for multiple use…cutting up veggies, fish, beef, chicken, etc. I like the fact that it looks like it can be easily handled..I like it’s design. I would love to get my hands on it!

A good knife makes chopping veggies and fruits so much easier. I have some okay knives right now that are fairly dull and ruin the integrity of the veggies and I spend more time recutting/chopping veggies and herbs bc they are not sharp enough.

I just recently purchased my first set of professional chef knives; the wusthof 7 piece classic set. I am I LOVE with this set and this is the knife I have chosen as my next piece to add to my collection! I have found a few reviews online, which were very helpful but this was my favorite. I would love to add this to my collection so I could enhance my chopping and dicing skills. I would love to eventually own my own restaurant and these knives were my first real step towards that goal (other than working in a kitchen, taking business classes, and learning as much as I can from my chef friends). I would LOVE and cherish this knife dearly!
