This cookbook, by Jerrelle Guy is the most fun that I’ve had reading and flipping through the pages of a cookbook in I don’t know how long — maybe ever! The author’s energy literally jumps off the page with absolutely gorgeous photos. Her deliberate choice of descriptors for her recipes separate the uniqueness from other chefs. She chooses to uses the senses to organize the book — sight, aroma and sound — and just the descriptions alone succeed in conjuring my senses. With variations on some familiar recipes, she pulls from her childhood to modernize recipes while preserving her heritage. She brilliantly uses adjectives to describe dishes which scream for you to make. No wonder Black Girl Baking was nominated for a James Beard award in 2019. Yum!
